Center of Photography Lumiere brothers invites to master – class outstanding Finno – American photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinena – "The Power of Three", which will be held on May 23 from 12.00 – 18.00 in the "White Room" center. Master – class invited photographers of all levels.
The duration of the meeting is 6 hours.
Master – class will begin with a portfolio – reviews. Each participant is encouraged to bring 10 – 12 photos that receive assessment Minkkinena Arno. After that, everyone will get a private job that will need to perform during a break. Participants of the workshop – the class will learn to comprehend the sequence in their works. Careful analysis of the photos will help you find the similarities and differences between the images. Photographer – is rarely the best person to determine whether the images reach that same puzzle: do others, but in the same spirit. Arno helps you understand how images interact. His task – to teach the participants of the master – class "power of three." This is the theory that the three images constitute a single series: they are different, but by one Spirit. Minkkinen says: "One image can be a book cover or winner of the competition, but it tells us little about how the photographer sees the world and how it passes through the chamber. Only when we have three pictures that are different, but so alike, we feel for the path by which we can imagine, and many other images that are the same and very different at the same time".
Arno Rafael Minkkinen , Professor of Art Louelskogo University in Massachusetts and associate professor of the University of Helsinki, was awarded the Order of the Lion First Class Medal from the Government of Finland in 1992, the Finnish State Prize in the field of photography in 2006 and the most prestigious American prize in photography in 2013 Lucie Award year.
Minkkinen included in the National Council of the Society of photographic education and is chairman of the Publications Committee, and they produced magazine Exposure. Minkkinena works devoted seven monographs: Frostbite (1978), Waterline (1994, winner of the 25th Book Award of the festival Rencontres d'Arles, Body Land (1999), SAGA: The Journey of Arno Rafael Minkkinen, 35 Years of Photographs (2005) Homework: The Finnish Photographs (2008), Swimming in the Air (2009) and the Balanced Equation (2010).
