Amazing poems by Marina Tsvetaeva, and so these lines in tune with everyone who lives in Moscow. Each of us has "own" Moscow, and, Tolstoy – has it to: wonderful and unique. The ancient capital the future writer first saw in 1837. Impressions from the meeting with Moscow reflected in his children's essay "Kremlin". In teenager's emotions – admiration of glorious history and a sense of Moscow. Tolstoy experienced pride and joy and later when he visited an old castle, the center of the national life of the Russian people, the focus of its centuries-old culture.
"Moscow – is Moscow – mother of white stone!" – Exclaims the hero of the unfinished novel "Decembrists" Labazov the first time since his return from exile listening to peal of bells in Moscow. And the writer, feels to Moscow the same enthusiastic feelings commented: "These Moscow bell sounds, coupled with the view from the window of a white wall, so vividly reminded him not only Moscow that he knew thirty-five years ago, but that Moscow with the Kremlin, Terem, Ivans, and so on, which he carried in his heart that he felt the children's joy that he was Russian and he was in Moscow."
However, in late 1870 – early 1880 – ies Tolstoy's point of view on life, his outlook has changed dramatically. The writer saw in the style of life of the capital pressure and arrogance of the coming to Russia capitalism, not just moving away from human nature, but destroying the traditional relations between people. To the fight against this evil Tolstoy gave all his strength and the power of his talent.
Moscow was opened to young Count Tolstoy by hundreds of its faces. Social receptions and friendly parties, horseback riding and in carriages, theater, dance – all this was in early youth of the future writer. But there was another heroic and more important, as it turned out. After the departure from Moscow in May 1851, Tolstoy came here only in November 1855 passing to St. Petersburg, where he, battle lieutenant, Commander of the Order of St. Anne and medals for bravery, passed major military school and in the Caucasus and on the Danube, and in the heroic Sevastopol, rode with a report. At the end of 1850 – and early 1860 – ies Tolstoy infrequently visited Moscow and stayed here for a short while, but these arrivals had for him extremely important meaning. Moscow gave him ample material for creativity; here he has always worked hard.
Then, in 1850 – ies, Tolstoy was present at meetings of the Society of Russian literature at Moscow University. At a meeting on 4 February 1859, he delivered a speech in which he argued that Russian literature "is not transferred from a foreign soil child's play, and there is a serious awareness of serious people." Tolstoy had been in theaters. In the Bolshoy he listened to the opera "A Life for the Tsar", "William Tell", "Siegfried", "Faust", attended ballet performances, concerts. Tolstoy also visited art exhibitions – in the Society of Art Lovers on Tverskoy Boulevard, the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at the Myasnitskaya Street. And of course, Moscow of Leo Tolstoy – is Khamovniki, Khamovniki outpost, Virgin's Field. Tolstoy often talked with ordinary people from nearby homes, watching their lives, remembered, noted. Much was useful to him in the writer's case.
Moscow of Leo Tolstoy … It is unique: good and friendly, windy, arrogant – in a word, very different. One its day, is not like the other. But these impressions together make up what is called everyday life. Tolstoy's life and Tolstoys, and along with them and dozens, hundreds of people who someday came and visited old house in Khamovniki.
