This land belonged to the Moscow merchant and landlord V. K Firgangu in the 1890 s.
After returning in 1890 from a trip to Sakhalin and before leaving in 1892 Melihovo in small two – storied wing on the right of ownership lived Chekhov. Here he worked on the book "Sakhalin Island" stories "The Grasshopper", "Duel", "House number 6", and also he has met with writers V. G. Korolenko, D. V. Grigorovich Gilyarovskii, P. Boborykin, Vladimir Nemirovich – Danchenko, historian D. S. Merezhkovskys, known actors A. P. Lenski and A. I. Yuzhin, artist I. Levitan. The wing has survived to our time and is marked by a memorial Board with the bas – relief of A. P. Chekhov. In the second half of the 1910s, the house belonged to a hereditary honorary citizen I. E. Rahmanova.
Currently the building is a branch of the MBO "Manezh" and is called "Chekhov's House".
The wing in which he lived, A. P. Chekhov (Malaya Dmitrovka, 29, p. 4), included in the list of cultural heritage objects of Federal importance.
Until the end of 2014 (at the time of reconstruction) in the "House Chekhova" moved to the State Museum of V. V. Mayakovsky, which was located earlier in the apartment of the poet in the Lubyanka.
