The Museum of cosmonautics is one of the largest science museums in the world. The history of the Museum had began in the second half of the XX century, when, in 1964, in Moscow appeared the monument to the Conquerors of space". Titan rocket at ENEA became a symbol of high-quality technological leap of its time. The launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, the first living creature and first man in space has become a starting point in the world space. So the space has become closer to humanity. The time is to write a history. In April 1981, in the stylobate of the monument was opened the Memorial Museum of cosmonautics. It presented evidence of the first achievements of Soviet cosmonautics: the first space suits, the first artificial Earth satellites; spacecraft to study the moon and planets of the Solar system.
In 2009, the Museum was opened after reconstruction (2006 – 2009). The area of the exhibition space has been increased four times. Today, the modern exposition of the Museum consists of eight exhibition halls, cinema halls (on 98 people) and conference rooms (130 people). The Museum's collection includes more than 93,000 units: samples of rocket and space technology, material relics, documents, philately, numismatics, decorative and applied art, collections of paintings and graphics. Memorial house – Museum of academician S. P. Korolev – the branch of the Museum.
The modern exposition consists of the following halls:
– "Morning of the space age";
– "The creators of the space age";
– "The space house in orbit" (modern manned space program);
– "Exploring the moon and planets of the Solar system";
– "Astronautics – to mankind";
– "International cooperation in space";
– "The international space Park (space of States of the world, the rocket and space industry of Russia);
– "The history and culture of the space age".
The geography of exhibition activities of the museum: Russia, CIS countries, UK, USA, India, Australia, Mongolia, Germany, Spain, France, China. So, with every day, the space becomes even closer.
