National centre of contemporary arts (NCCA)

National Centre for Contemporary Art (NCCA) – museum of exhibit, information and educational and research organization that is focused on the development of contemporary Russian art and includes the implementation of programs and projects in the field of audio-visual art and design in the country and abroad.

Order “On the establishment of the National Centre for Contemporary Art” was issued on 11 August 1992 by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, and August 16, 1994 NCCA was established and began its activities.

In the 1990s, the NCCA has played a significant role in the reorganization of the socio-cultural life of Russia. At a time when contemporary art in our country was finding conditions for its normal existence and development , the center has become an important and vital structure that consolidates the activities of artists contemporary art, stimulated  their creativity. The activities of the NCCA was important for Moscow where was based the Centre, and for many regions of the country, where, thanks to the initiative and efforts of the NCCA carried out artistic projects of modern art, which led to the activation of its development in the field.

Today when the efforts of the previous years are beginning to show results ,NCCA continues active work aimed at the development and promotion of national contemporary art and its integration into the global art context.

Currently, the NCCA – Network, which opened branches in major cultural centers of our country: St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Vladikavkaz and Tomsk. All of them independently develop and realize their creative programs. NCCA (Moscow) coordinates their activities.

The activities of the National Centre for Contemporary Art performed in several directions:

* promotion support of contemporary Russian art;
* various forms of curatorial work allowing to realize the exhibition and audio-visual projects, installations, performances, conduct video and film viewings, meetings with artists;
* analytical and scientific information activities in the field of contemporary art;
* educational activity – lectures, seminars, workshops;
* work on creating a collection of contemporary art, both domestic and foreign.

This corresponds to the major activities of a number of long-term programs developed by the Center. Each program implemented some projects initiated by specialists of NCCA and other curators, researchers, masters of modern art, with the support and participation of the creative and technical departments of the NCCA.

Today the NCCA – leading  state specialized institution in the field of contemporary art in Russia. The Centre works closely with independent experts in the field of contemporary art, and audio-visual culture, as well as museums, research institutes, non-governmental organizations, both Russian and foreign.

NCCA is working under the auspices and with the constant support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
