Cultural institution Gallery "vellum"," was opened in 2001 when the League Figures of Culture and Art; since 2005, is the exhibition activities as an independent organization.
The main activity of the Gallery "Vellum" is the collecting, study and promotion of creative artists of the twentieth century, with a bright individual style, value conditional manner. Among them are artists of Russian symbolism and art Nouveau, "formals", theatrical artists and craftsmen graphics, artists of Jewish cultural traditions, underground, abstractionists and expressionists – all those who were outside the formal recognition and study in the Soviet period.
In addition to works of famous masters – A. Shevchenko, V. Lebedev, D. Burliuk, P. Petrovichev, V. Shukhaev, A. Kaplan, I. Tabenkin, A. Zverev, V. Kalinin, V. Yakovlev, E. Kropivnitsky, P. Belenkov, B. Smirnov – Rusetsky,T. Bruni and others, the gallery is presented an artists ' works, unjustly were forgotten or even unfamiliar to a wide audience, such as I. Drize, R. Barto, A. Bykhovsky, A. Lumkis, I. Ostrovskii, N. Tarkhov, V. Yasnopolskaya, A. Konovalov, E. Ermilova – Platov, V. Bubnov. The gallery is engaged in studying of creativity of these masters, is very active in publishing – publishes scientific articles in the magazines "Art", "art", "Antique review", "DI", releases album editions and reproductions in postcard size.
The gallery was published an illustrated collection of memories B. Smirnov – Rusetsky – the famous painter, a successor to the symbolist tradition of M. Ciurlionis and N. Roerich. In 2009, two publications have published an illustrated catalogue of A. S. Konovalova – the artist of Russian symbolism, whose work has not previously been studied, but in recent years has received wide public acclaim. The gallery has released albums of works by C. Pavlovsky, A. Monoszon, A. Lumkes.
One of the areas the research activities of the Gallery "Vellum" is the study of creative artists of Vitebsk-Mogilev school, the followers and continuers of the tradition established by I. Peng and M. Shagal. In particular, the gallery has prepared for publication and published on this topic a collection of articles and memoirs A. Romm.
