In the first photographs of the photo exhibition "Russia. XX century in photos: 1900 – 1913" is depicted as a global historical event – the 300-th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, the February and October revolutions, elections to the State Duma, the events of the First World war, and daily life of various social classes – family holidays, home theatres, sports, street scenes and more. The exhibition is also widely represented the cultural life of the early XX century reflects its most significant events: the construction and opening of the Moscow art Theater, Mariinsky theatre, checkout the famous troupe of Sergei Diaghilev to nice, house of Maximilian Voloshin in Koktebel, exhibitions of artistic Association "World of art". Special attention is paid to architecture and the urban landscape of Moscow, St. Petersburg and provincial towns in Russia. The exhibition is presented the works of the best photographers of the early XX century, among which Karl and Viktor Bulla, Sherer and Nabgolts, Boasson and Egler, Gauthier-dyufaye and Dmitriev, and at the same time pictures of unknown authors.
For example, in one of the photos of Nizhniy Novgorod photographer Maxim Dmitriev, the founder of the Russian journalistic photojournalism, captured the first Russian car. First public presentation of a self-propelled double crew was held at the all-Russia industrial and art exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896, which was attended by His Imperial Majesty Nicholas II. The authors of this technical feat was Evgeny Yakovlev and Peter Frese. Both owned their own production facilities: Yakovlev – engineering plant, the mill – crew factory. However, the fate of this, as they say now, the consortium was unenviable: the car was not appreciated by neither the power, nor Yakovlev companions after his death. Later, the mill sold the company to the Russo-Baltic factory, which since 1909 has produced cars under the brand "Russo-Balt". But whatever it was, the car Yakovlev Frese became the ancestor of the domestic auto industry.
Other photos are presented us with the moments of the last Russian Emperor and his family – their way of life and leisure. Here Their Majesties wore different costumes before Peter the Great – not just for a photo shoot, and costume ball held in the Hermitage in 1903 and arranged in honour of the 290-th birthday anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. This masquerade has become a high-profile event that brought together the flower of Russian nobility. All gathered for a holiday 390 guests: the ladies of the court were dressed in sundresses and kokoshniki, and the gentlemen appeared in costumes of Musketeers or Sokolniki. Nicholas II was dressed in rags of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, Alexandra – in the costume of Queen Maria Ilyinichna. So, dressed in ancient robes of royalty and captured at the end of the evening the famous St. Petersburg photographer- Sergei Levitsky (son). Here Nicholas II on yacht "Standart" with the Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich, Alexandra Feodorovna and brasovo the Countess, wife of Grand Duke Michael. And this is no decorous portrait of the first persons of the state, but simply a scene from the life of seemingly ordinary people: the Emperor and his younger brother, smiling and posing for the photographer, pulled on one of the beams on the deck of the yacht.
The first exhibition from a cycle "Russia. The XX century in photos" already has seen in some European capitals: in early 2014 the exhibition was shown in Tilskoy gallery, Stockholm, and in June of this year – at the Russian centre of science and culture in Budapest.
