A child, early has left without parents; not the luckiest student; debutant in the literature; participated in the defense of Sevastopol – all this Leo Tolstoy in the period since 1828 to the mid 1850-ies, the exhibition tells about the life of Leo Tolstoy, when he was not yet a famous author, about his childhood years and adolescence. The visitors will see the plan of the house in which Leo Tolstoy was born, drawn by his hand, read poems little Leva, facing the aunt, find out what literary works influenced the future writer. Unique exhibits from the collections of the State Museum of L. N. Tolstoy tells about the childhood of Tolstoy in Yasnaya Polyana, his studies at Kazan University in the 1840-ies, military service in the Caucasus and Sevastopol in the 1850-ies, and most importantly – about the beginning of creation, publish first completed novel "Childhood" in 1852, Despite the early loss of parents, a childhood of Tolstoy was always a special period: "Happy, Happy, irretrievable time of childhood! How do not love, not to cherish memories of it? Those memories refresh and elevate my soul and serve my best source of enjoyment," wrote Tolstoy in his story "Childhood."
The works of the young Tolstoy is largely autobiographical, and therefore so convincing and life. Description of feelings Venison, the hero of the story "The Cossacks", expresses the experience of the Tolstoy: "He deliberated over where to put all that strength of youth, only once in life happens in person, on art, on science, on love for the right woman, or to practical activity, is not the power of the mind, heart, education, and the non-repetitive impulse, that at one time this man the power to make of himself whatever he wants, and as it seems, and from all around the world, what he wants".
In 1854, after the Crimean war, Tolstoy had left the Caucasus and was first in the army of the Danube, and later in Sevastopol, where he served in the artillery pieces throughout the defense of the city. The defense of Sevastopol, a person's life in the war was reflected in the three stories: "Sevastopol in December, Sevastopol in May and Sevastopol in August 1855". The story "Sevastopol in May" contains a thought, which can be attributed to his work as a whole: "The Hero of my tale, whom I love with all his heart, which tried to reproduce in all his beauty and who always was, is and will be beautiful, is truth." After going through difficult trials in the war, he gained life experience and have formulated a number of principles, from which no subsequently refused. He became a staunch opponent of war and violence, and his paintings sought extremely realistic display different life situations. The experience gained in the Crimean war, became the basis for the creation of the novel "War and peace".
