Moscow Museum of modern art is presented 30.09.2015 large-scale retrospective of Andrey Bartenev,he is an artist of synthesis, connecting in his art and in his own way embodies fine art, performance art, theater, dance and music. The exhibition in two buildings of the Museum on Gogol Boulevard will be presented the works by Bartenev over the past 25 years. The work on the materials for the exposure continues for more than a year – in July and August one of the buildings of the Museum was an open artist's Studio where the visitors could monitor the preparation and restavracia works for the exhibition. He was awarded in the 90-ies of the epithets "man – performance" and "master of Islands" Bartenev explores the world through the contrasts of colors and volumes, textures and surfaces, through active play with materials and shapes. The curators of the exhibition on Gogol will attempt to understand the complex universe of the artist. The basis of the exposure solution will form a dialectical component of his work.
The exhibition will be opened for visitors since 30.09.2015 – 22.11.2015 year.
With the help of white and emerald colors classical mansion of the XIX century will be divided into two conditional parts – North and South: the confrontation of cold and heat. Its spatial implementation and the division of works into two large chronological period. The left wing of the Museum will be devoted to 90-th – the era of formation of modern art in new Russia and the flourishing of artist – the direct participant of this process. Huge collection of the works of Bartenev during this period will gain a new life and for the first time will be available to a wider audience. One of the Central problems in this part of the exhibition will be the project "The snow Queen" (1993) – avant-garde interpretation of Andersen's tale, exhibited in the State Tretyakov gallery, and then the Royal Festival Hall and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. It and its Creator in 1994 became the heroes of the first issue of the legendary magazine "PTUCH", marking the entry of Russian contemporary art on the pages of glossy magazines. Another demonstration for the time job "Botanical ballet" (1992) inspired by the artist's memories about growing up in the polar Norilsk, with its contrast of black night and white snow. This section will be also included a large-scale video archive with the documentation of more than 50 artist performances.
The right wing will be of major installations and kinetic sculptures-2000s, each of which will be assigned a room: led sculpture "Electric aliens" (2004), installation "Cоnnection Lost. Field of Lonely Hearts" (2007), which participated in the exhibition in the Russian pavilion at the 52-nd Venice Biennale, and sound sculpture, "Say: I love you" (2005) from the collection of Moscow Museum of modern art. Unfortunately, many of the most important works of the artist were created as temporary and have lived a little longer – will be the subject of a separate room.
Specially for the exhibition of Andrey Bartenev will be restored by "The SunPool" (2009), created for the Foundation of Willem de Kooning and subsequently included in the collection of Director Robert Wilson, as well as the installation of "Love me". A separate room is a new sculpture "sea Buckthorn" from hundreds of steel and ceramic balls are also created especially for the exhibition in the Museum.
After the Russian futurists, Andrey Bartenev has created in his works an absurd, bizarre and provocative, carnival phantasmagoria. Bartenev costumes and scenery for the performances compared to the projects of Sergei Diaghilev and Vsevolod Meyerhold. Another source of inspiration for the artist, whose works are somehow connected with a sculpture that was kinetic art. The apparent spontaneity confusion and beauty of works of Bartenev combined with well-built internal dynamics: the chaos of the masquerade is always a thoughtful play. The unifying element of the exhibition in the Museum will become a movement – rotating, shimmering, sounding objects will turn the Museum prostranstvo into a single mechanism under control of Andrey Bartenev.
Preparing the exhibition special project "by Andrey Bartenev. Factory" will be devoted to the influence of Andrey Bartenev on the generation of young Russian artists and illustrators.
