The peoples friendship University (until 1992 named after P. Lumumba, from 1992 – Russian peoples friendship University) was established on 5 February 1960 to September 1, 1961. It has begun classes at the various faculties, including the faculty of Economics and law – the predecessor of the economic faculty of RPFU.
The beginning of the economic Department was initiated by the creation of the Department of economic and political geography, Department of Economics and planning, industry and agriculture and the Department of political economy. The deans of faculty (in chronological order) became scientists – A. F. Shebanov, N. V. Chernogolovka, N. A. Strukov, A. A. Zasukhin, V. I. Smolarczyk, L. G. Malyshev, V. P. Mozolin, O. A. Zhidkov, Y. M. Shvyrkov, N. P. Gusakov.
The 90-ies was put on the agenda the necessity of selection of the faculty in an independent unit. In March 1995 by order of the University faculty of Economics and law was divided into two faculties: economic and legal. The first Dean was elected, and today it remains a graduate, now a doctor of economic Sciences, Professor- Nikolay Pavlovich Gusakov.
An important milestone in the development of the economic Department and creating a full – fledged educational, scientific and pedagogical, organizational and technical base was the construction and equipment in 1998, two – storyed complex premises 3260 sq. m
In the XXI century, when the development of economic education was a significant factor in the formation of the new Russia, faculty of Economics has become one of the leading educational and scientific centers,it was known not only in our country but also abroad.
