The building, which is homed to the Presidium and exhibition halls of the Russian Academy of arts, is well known in Moscow as Morozov's detached house. It is based on the main house city estate XVIII – XIX centuries. In the early XIX century it belonged to General A. A. Tuchkov. Then the estate was belonged to count S. P. Potemkin, whose wife, nee P. E. Trubetskaya, was planted by her mother at the wedding of Alexander Pushkin, who was here many times.
In possession of the Morozov family, the manor was passed at the end of the century. In 1889 it was bought by a hereditary honorary citizen of Moscow D. A. Morozov. But since 1899 it has become the property of I. A. Morozov, a prominent businessman and collector. The modern view of the main of the house was in 1871 by the project of P. Campioni.
In 1904 – 1906, architect L. N. Kekushev was partially rebuilt the mansion inside, the taste of the new owner, who wishes to place their collection of paintings. According to available data, in this restructuring was attended by renowned Belgian architect A. van de Velde. Ornate moldings, covered ceilings and walls, was removed. The simplicity and "Museum" stringency prevailed in the interiors. The house evolved into a model for the time Museum. Some staterooms – lit top light White room, the Oak room (former dining room Morozov) has preserved a refined finish and decor of the turn of XIX – XX centuries. The Morozov collection of modern art was one of the unique European art collections, which presented the works of French Impressionists and post-Impressionists, Russian artists of the late XIX – nachalo V. The Grand staircase was designed with decorative panels P. Bonnard. For White or concert hall of Maurice Denis completed mural on the theme "History of psyche".
The first world war interrupted the replenishment of the Morozov collection. In 1918 the collection was nationalized. In 1928 merged the Shchukin and Morozov collections in the United State Museum of new Western art in Prechistenka, 21. After the closure of the Museum its collection was transferred to the State Hermitage and the State Museum of fine arts named after A. S. Pushkin. In 1948, the mansion housed the Presidium of the Academy of arts and research Institute of theory and history of fine arts.
Since the 1990-s, White hall style panel on the theme "History of psyche", the national artist of the Russian Federation of Albina Akritas. In ceremonial enfilade of the second floor, one after another, held numerous exhibitions of the leading masters of Russian art – personal, group is dedicated to the works of the dynasties of artists. They reflect contemporary artistic process and the main trends of development of domestic art.
