Among the paintings, worthy of special attention, is the "Coronation of thorns" Tommaso Salini (1575 – 1625), artist, not represented in the collection Foundation Longhi positions, as the study of his work was the result of research in recent decades.
The exhibition is also helped to understand and evaluate the personality of a long-collector. The collected works reflect a deep interest in the work of Caravaggio and his circle, which scientists have carried through his whole life, and with excellent knowledge of art history and individual artists manners longs managed to acquire first-rate works of painters whose names have not enjoyed fame. Among them are the masterpiece of Angelo Caroselli (1585 – 1662) "Allegory of impermanence" (C.A. 1608 – 1610), the work of one of Caravaggio's Neapolitan, Battistello Caracciolo (1578 – 1635) "The entombment" and two paintings by Mattia Preti, "The Concert" (1620) and "Susanna and the elders" (1656 – 1659). Its fame Mattia Preti owes much to the works of youthful Roberto Longhi about the artists of the so-called naturalistic direction.
