The exhibition "The city as a history textbook" was opened on 29 of October at the Solovetsky Stone on Lubyanka Square during the annual campaign "Return of names" – reading of names of Muscovites who were shot in the years of political repression in the Soviet Union. The exhibition provides an opportunity to Muscovites to feel the unity of time, place and action of city life, to feel the connection with those completely recent generations, Who lived in Moscow 60-80 years ago, generations of our very close ancestors. The fates of these people managed in specific houses, past many of which we daily go to work and in the cinema.
Exhibition "The city as a history textbook. Places of repression in Moscow" has historical and educational and local history character. On a modern map of the capital are marked the 70 objects. In 12 light boxes are placed photos of "places of memory" – objects or buildings associated with the history of political repression in the Soviet Union in the 1920s – 50s years. Each photograph is accompanied by historical information, prepared by the participants of the project "Moscow. Places of memory." So, through visual images, historical chronicle and personal testimonies is disclosed the impotence of man in front of state institutions in the Soviet Union of the Stalinist period, and also is shown the scale of political repression in Moscow in the 1930s.
