Technical Museum – one of the oldest museums in the world – opened December 12, 1872. Technical Museum was established on the initiative of Russian scientists, educators, members of the Imperial Society of Naturalists, Anthropology and Ethnography. The museum was conceived as a scientific and educational center of Russia, with the task of intellectual support of the technical culture of the society through the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Starting museum put Polytechnique exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great, which opened in Moscow on May 30, 1872
History of the museum is rich of interesting events: in its halls and classrooms at different times with the same success were public statements of prominent academics and cultural figures in Russia. Today Polytechnic Museum – the largest technical museum in Russia, holds more than 190 thousand of museum items, about 100 museum collections in various areas of technology and scientific knowledge. Exposition of the museum tell the history of art and its creators, explaining the operation of the various technical devices. Into a complex of the Museum Polytechnic enters Library (more than 3 million books and publications). In a large auditorium of the museum held poetic and musical evenings, meetings with famous people, speech scientists, the program "Tribuna Academy of Sciences at the Polytechnic."
