"Studio KOP" is a workshop, an office, a gallery and a living space, are located in a two storeyed loft on the territory of the factory "Plastic". It was founded by artists Georgy Ostretsov, Ludmila Konstantinova and Sergey Pakhomov as a non – profit project that aims to support contemporary Russian artists and provide an exhibition space. Today, there are exhibited the creative artists association Vglaz, and collectors contribute to the project, ensuring the rent. Every Wednesday are hold exhibitions where you can see the results of the work of artists for the week.
In addition to the placed and hung everywhere art Studio amazes unusual furniture and decorative details. Built of rough boards kitchen with gloss top, made from a variety of wooden beams and covered with several layers of lacquer. Antique piano with candlesticks made from animal bones. The tables and the stools from polished log cabins wood are connected by wire . "In this workshop I have finally been able to deal with the furniture" says Ostretsov. – There was a place under the joiner's shop, and I realized that I could fulfill his dream of yourself to create an environment around yourself, as Robinson from scrap materials. I feel like Robinson Crusoe in the world of consumption."
The interior, which makes Ostretsov and other artists in the Studio KOP – continued art, each one is unique. "The modern furniture market and industrial design focused on mass consumption, mean many taboos and restrictions – they disappear when doing things with their hands. Manual labor ennobles and beautifies the subject, gives it a personality, even if it is done with the error or defect," explains Ostretsov. The first customers were friends of the artist, which was a pleasant surprise endless possibilities: furniture can be made of any material, including old, using heterogeneous components, complex techniques and the most unpredictable of decorative techniques.
Most of the materials that are used in the manufacture of interior, found by chance: Ostretsov learns that somewhere dismantle the old house, or, for example, pritschet with garbage nobody wants the Board. So in the Studio there was a huge metal letters that were found during the removal of the signs of one of the Moscow hotels. Letters already Atskuri and re – painted, and soon they will become fixtures. "Often the material itself carries a prototype of a future subject, "says Ostretsov. – It remains only to properly handle and emphasize dignity." Not all furniture is created from scratch, based on many things – Antiques, or items. "Sometimes I bring old things in such condition that their restoration will not save. Then I tell the owners can make the art object". The results of such experiments are always unpredictable. In the living room in the Studio is the Soviet bedside table, which now grows huge wooden mushroom and leaf antique Cabinet replaced with collages work Ostretsov, illuminated with neon lights.
Strikes and a variety of small parts and unusual materials: furniture handles made from boiled and covered with a varnish of animal bones, old nails, random pieces of wood, bent nails. Ostretsov enthusiastically experimenting with techniques of working with wood for a project on the order of one alcohol brand he had to build a wooden surface, similar to the old deck. The process was long and laborious: the first had to be produced in the form of foam, cut it in half, piskurich, be papered as papier – mache, pieces of oak pour epoxy resin, again piskurich, stain, varnish, piskurich, toned black oil, once again, piskurich and finally to cover the parquet wax. "Before me there was an artistic challenge, "says Ostretsov. "I'd do it as an artist – intuitively."
