In the house № 53 along the street of Arbat is a Museum “Memorial flat of A. S. Pushkin”. In Moscow it is a unique museum memorial of the great Russian poet. The building is included in the list of cultural monuments of national importance.
23-rd of January, 1831 A. S. Pushkin signed the contract about rent of the apartment in a mansion on the Arbat belonged to a noble Khitrovo family. 17-th of February 1831, on the eve of the wedding, “the poet gathered his friends. Here after the wedding in the Church of the Great ascension at Nikitsky gate A. S. Pushkin brought his young wife. Here were the first three months of happy family life of Pushkin.
18-th of February 1986, in celebration of the 155-th anniversary of the wedding of Alexander Pushkin and N. N. Goncharova, took place the solemn opening of the Museum. 18-th of February, 1999 after the restoration of the “Memorial apartment Pushkin on Arbat” reopened its doors for visitors.
