The biggest in Russia private Museum of East – Christian art.
The art project of its founder, Mikhail Abramov, revives one of the best domestic traditions of Russian patronage, a century ago was the beginning of the gathering, studying and snatcheth Russian icons.
It is the only in Russia, private collection of Byzantine and old Russian art, officially transformed into a public Museum, the status of which was confirmed by its inclusion in the international organization of the ICOM (international Council of museums with the highest consultative status, category “a” in UNESCO and in the Economic and social Council of the United Nations).
In the Museum there are daily free survey and thematic excursions for everyone, constantly working scientific consultants, there is a lecture hall, concerts and presentations. We always glad to see in the walls of our Museum all visitors who love and value the Russian culture.
The Museum of Russian icons is not only the largest and significant at the level of the presented works private collection, with nearly 4500 storage units, but, certainly, most inclusive of material, damaging their chronological framework.
It includes works of the most important artistic centers of Eastern Christian art: from the Roman and late Roman samples, which served as the basis of the Byzantine imagery; early Christian and actually Byzantine antiquities VI – XIV centuries, some of which have no analogues even in the richest collections of public museums; Greek and post-Byzantine monuments, works of Ethiopian culture; – up to the Russian icon painting, which is the basis of the collection and covers an extensive period – from the fourteenth to the early XX century.
